Many chronic pain problems in young individuals are not because of serious damage or disease but because of sprain, strains or minor injuries. Habitual poor posture or bad posture leads to this situation. If this goes uncorrected for a length of time, it perpetuates into a chronic pain syndrome. The classical examples for this situation are backpain, neckpain, headache and fibromyalgia. There are many situations wherein we assume wrong postures without our knowledge. We will be discussing from patient’s point of view certain healthy practices and postures to keep many chronic pain syndromes away from him. The pain clinician should be well conversant with these preventive aspects of pain management. Bad postures together with ignorance of underlying cause leads to chronic pain in various parts of body. Over a course of time uncorrected and habitual poor posture causes structural changes in the joints and wear and tear.

Common Bad Postures
  1. Prolonged bending at work (Fig.1)
  2. Sleeping on too soft or too hard surface
  3. Prolonged sitting in poor position (slouching) (Fig.2)
  4. Incorrect lifting of heavy weights
  5. Badly adjusted desk height or computer screen level.

These corrective measures need to be implemented at all places where one spends time like starting from home to office place
