Peripheral nerve stimulation began as silicone cuff electrodes that were placed around the affected peripheral nerves and attached to a subcutaneous RF receiver. The technology has since been refined to multiarray percutaneous wire electrodes, with power sources that range from RF receivers in combination with external transmitters to implanted lithium ion battery packs, as well as an implantable power source. This is a minimally invasive procedure done as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia & sedation
