Chymopapain or chymodiactin has been the most widely used enzyme for chemonucleolysis with success rates ranging from 66% to 88%. Instantaneous hydrolysis of the chondromucoprotein portion of the nucleus was observed, while surrounding tissues were seemingly spared.
