Acupuncture (Latin: acus—needle, puncture—to penetrate) is an art of healing wherein needles are inserted in different parts of the body to streamline the energy flow within the body. Ancient Chinese practiced this art more then 2000 years ago. This art has survived ages of controversies. In different centuries it had to face different resistance. In the modern era, health professionals in different countries scientifically assessed this therapy between fifth and eighth decade. After extensive research, different universities have approved acupuncture as a safe and effective therapy for the treatment of certain chronic pain problems. Currently acupuncture is an accepted procedure and no longer an experimental therapy.
